Currently using Quanta Pro on linux but if you were thinking Windows, I can get by with notepad. I'd miss synatx highlighting though.

Another app I like for what I try is ghostscripe coupled with abcm2ps. I can product notation on the fly that way. Even transpose on the fly.

    X:133
    T:A Beggin' I Will Go
    M:6/8
    L:1/8
    Kdor
    E|E2E A2A|G2G E2C|D2D G2G|E3z2
wf all the trades in En-gl-and the beg-gin' is the best
    A|A A2B A2|G E2C2D|E D2C2A,|G,2z2
w: For when a beg-gar's tir-ed he can sit him down to rest
    B, C|D2D D2E|D3z2D/2 D/2|DC2A,G,2|A,4z|]
    w:And a beg-gin' I will go and a beg-gin I will go
Wf all the trades in England
    W:The beggin' is the best
    W:For when a beggar's tired
W:He can sit him down to rest

A simple text format will come out as http://home.folkinfo.org:8080/abctes...php?songid=126
    Or a midi.

Dreamweaver teaches you precisely nothing - that's why you're using notepad! Sounds like you have a good teacher!

Why not make us use something with line numbering then? and syntax highlighting. I only ever use DW in code view. besides, it's a university course. we should already know HTML/XHTML. (I did, and it completely put me off XHTML. When I tried to use XHTML on my comp. it completely killed my DW installation (eventually, it buggered up DW really badly first.) So I will use XHTML as my course requires it, and on the uni computers. But outside uni, I'm sticking with HTML 4

Syntax highlighting is a relatively new development - I've worked for years without that.

As for line numbers ... Ctrl+G -> go to line. Does all you need

Nothing wrong with XHTML - i'ts just *proper* HTML.

    <BR> - HTML
    <BR /> - XHTML

XHTML is more XML style HTML.

XHTML tags are lower-case only, so <br /> is correct :p
