    Default php 5 + mysql 4.1 + IIS

    Hi,

I´m trying to install the new version of php (5.0.4) and the newest of MySQL (4.1.13) with IIS 5.1 on my windows xp machine.

Before I do this, I should uninstall previous versions, right?
I found many tutorials explaining how to do this, but they mentioned apache as the server, and not IIS.

    I´ve downloaded:

    http://www.php.net/downloads.php
    Windows Binaries
    PHP 5.0.4 zip package [7,488Kb] - 31 Mar 2005

    and

    http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/4.1.html
    Windows Essentials (x86) 4.1.13 15.4M

Should this be enough to work with IIS.
I´ll keep searching. If anybody has any useful info. I´ll appreciate it.

    Thank you for your time.

So what your trying to do is turn one of your home machines into a webserver? why dont you use apache as your webhost program? just out of curiosity.
... I'm not an expert however I really don't think it's supposed to do that ...

I too would probably use IIS since it will emulate the RFH as near as possible. It is always could to have a development environment that is set-up identically to the production environment so that unnecssary bugs don't creep in.

There are many ADSI scripts available that will allow you to add / remove virtual websites to IIS running under Windows XP, you just have to remember that you can only run 1 virtual site at a time. Unfortunately you have to use ADSI to add / remove sites since the MMC doesn't allow this functionality.

I thought everyvbody had their home machines turned into a personal webserver. Just for fun, development, learning purposes???

That´s how I even started before I decided to pay for webhosting.

Anyway, that´s where I build my website when I´m not online. THe localhost is configured same as RFH. It´s named HYDROGEN and the physical path is the same. That way is almost identical to RFH. This is good for when you have problems with your website online, and you can just check in your local to see if it just was you or the RFH server.

And of course is not meant to be a public webserver.

The reason that I do not use Apache webserver is because I use ASP and sometimes PHP (just for pre-made applications like phpbbforum or something like that)

    Thank you for youer time.
