    Default Web Forwarding

    Hi.

I have two domains with Red Fox that need a degree of interaction - I would be grateful for some advice on the best way to achieve a result...

DomainA.com is the main domain. DomainB.com is a secondary feeder domain. I want the website to be common - but I need different email accounts on each domain.

I can't use Domain Alias feature because of the need for different email accounts on each domain. I don't want to have to maintain two websites - so I was hoping that, within the Red Fox system, there's a way of Web Forwarding. I need "deep" Web Forwarding - so can't simply create an index.htm on DomainB.com that meta-refreshes to DomainA.com.

    Should the following work?...
In DomainB.com's DNS Zone settings, delete AREC's www, @, * and substitute with CNAME's for each of those three with a value "DomainA.com"?

I tried this but, being impatient, I haven't waited more than a few minutes - and am presently getting errors (domain not found, etc.). For reference - the nameservers have been registered for a few days and have not been changed - so I shouldn't have to wait for DNS propagation.

    Ideas anyone???

    TIA,
    Alan

Hi, its a little early on in the morning for me still only had one coffee lol but how important is it that you have seperate email accounts?

Do you want to have 2 seperate pop3 email accounts like sales@domainA.com and sales@domainB.com or are you wanting to be able have different email accounts like yourname@domainA.com and someonelse@domainB.com?

If your wanting yourname@domainA.com and someonelse@domainB.com the domain alias would work although all the email accounts would be set up using the main domain name email can still be sent to whoever@domainalias.com

I'd set them up with the domain aliases. Then, if you are using Outlook, you should be able to set up 2 seperate accounts for each domain email address. When someone sends an email to whichever email address, when you click reply, it should reply with the email address for that domain. I've got email coming in from 3 domains in outlook (all going into the same mailbox), and it works well for me.

Although thats a good way of doing it, I think he wanted two mailboxes with the same name, for example:

    sales@domain1.com
    sales@domain2.com

With aliases, you could only have one box at both addresses.

Quite right, Warren (who has already answered me via Ticket system).

In the end I elected to host the two domains separately. In this way the two email systems are separate (a strict requirement).

So far, with this configuration, I have had to resort to a compromise with regard to the other requirement which was to have a single website. I have simply set the homepage on one site to redirect to the other. I really wanted deep-links to work as well and I tried to achieve this using global.asa Session_OnStart to read the HTTP request and map it to the other domain - but global.asa is a strange thing and *sometimes* won't read the HTTP request properly (a documented "feature" [which works on another of my domains!!!!!!!]).

Never mind - my client seems happy - for the moment .

Thank y'all for your thoughts. Any further thoughts would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Alan
