Default Choosing an ISP... any advice?

I am looking for a new ISP provider for one of my customers (its a family not a business).

They are currently on Wanadoo 1Meg with a 2Gb cap.

    Their requirements/restrictions are:
    - Wants to up the cap (teenage kids!!!) to 6 - 10Gb.
    - Doesnt have LLU available and 1meg is their limit (due to exchange distance)
    - Wants something thats reliable

I have narrowed it down to Freedom2Surf and Metronet.

Does anyone have any suggestions of other good ISPs they can go with?
Are these 2 ISPs as good as I have read about?

Sorting out ISPs isnt really my bag, so any advice would be appreciated.

    many thanks

I'd be a bit wary of going with Freedom2Surf at the moment. The reason is that they sold out to Pipex a week or so ago. If they do continue to run in the same format then yes, I would agree that they are a good ISP. However, if Pipex absorb them into their infrastructure then I would stay away (just my personal opinion based on past experiences).

The other ISP that I like to recommend is Griffin Internet. I have found that they provide a good level of support as well as offering a stable service. You can find them at http://www.griffin.co.uk/

Yes, I read about Pipex and Freedom2Surf the other day.

As F2S offer one month contracts I may still consider them. Certainly the http://www.freedom2support.net/ website has a few posts from concerned subscribers, so I may monitor these for a week before making any decision.

    many thanks

    Cheers for the link.

I also checked out http://www.ispreview.co.uk/ for their customer reviews.

Most reviews I read rated a core set of good ISPs (of which these 2 were included).

I will checkout ADSLGuide to see if their ratings tally with my shortlist, and if they offer any other alternatives.

    cheers

Well my suggestion would have also been freedom2surf until i also found out that pipex had just been bought by them.... my choice right now would be either BT (1mb at a 20gig limit a month for 26quid or 35quid for 40gig a month or something like that) but unless your willing to pay that extra bit more then right this moment Zen are the ISP to go with... they offer 1mb or 2mb packages, abit expensive at around about £35 - £40 a month depending on which package you go for but they are stable as hell, have no limits on their packages ( as of yet nor have any plans for the near future to put them on ) and they also offer free newsgroups access to their newsgroups etc... etc...

The reason they are so expensive is because they're mainly a business ISP but they do offer home packages also else i wouldnt suggest them to you. A friend of mine is really up to date with the ISP Information and he recently chose Zen and really rates them well.

A little offtopic (I think) but has anybody seen that Telewest Blueyonder are upping their best package (4MB / £50 pm) to 10MB download at a cheaper price of £35 pm?
