Default Some stats re:.net, vs java cfm, php)

Found this while I was surfing

    .net vs cfm

ComputerJobs.com converted from Cold Fusion to .Net and saw a 400% improvement in server efficiency. They predicted that they would save over $100K in the following year due to reduced hardware

    .net vs java
A team of 2 developers rebuilt the “Sun Microsystems' Java Pet Store J2EE BluePrint Application” using .Net in 4 weeks with 25% of the code. When tested in a lab, the .Net application ran %1000 faster than a tuned version of the Java application. The same Pet Store application was rebuilt by both Microsoft and Sun for an independent competition sponsored by The Middleware Company. Below is a comparison of the results:

    .Net 1.1/Windows 2003
    J2EE/Windows 2000
    Lines of Code
    .net - 2,096
    Java - 14,004

    .net vs PHP

The PHP tests were done using the Zend Accelerator.
    The results where:
    Time Taken
    ASP.NET@ 80 Mil 0.218
    ASP.NET@ 800 Mil 2.250
    ASP.NET@ 1.6Billion 4.781
    PHP @ 8 Million 4.561

BBC BASIC CGI kills them all...

    http://www.cp15.org/webjames/

On to reality.... I find in order of fastest to slowest (with a little bit of scalability added for fun):

    - Static HTML Apache
    - Static HTML IIS
    - ASP.Net IIS (cached)
    - PHP Apache
    - ASP.Net IIS / SQL Server
    - PHP Apache/MySQL
    - JSP (tomcat/oracle)

Consequentially, we use a hybrid of ASP.Net for dynamic content and static content generation for our largest site... It's still crap though as it suffers from nested tables of doom.

I actually have a three processor BBC Master in the junk box (2x 6512s and a Z80 for good measure!)

Who needs Doom 3 when you have Chuckie Egg!

Wow! Chuckie Egg!! That brings back memories of mis-spent mid teen years!! Although I played it on a speccy 48k! Think I might have a couple of them knocking about in my parent's loft!

it's like chinese wispers this thread, how we have gone from statistically analysing the cutting edge of web technologies to early 80's Hen House Harry and his obsession for eggs.

Where next, I can't wait?! hehe

    Only time will tell.

On the subject of speccies, I found a pile of microdrive tapes in the junk box at work (amongst some 5Mb hard disks and what looks like a third of a VAX minicomputer with burn marks on the chassis). Dunno whats on them - might get a +3 off ebay to find out.
