    Default Slow DotNetNuke

    Hello Forum

New to this forum however i've not long purchased a reseller account for clients that i design the odd website for. I'm an ASP programmer, and do the bit of web design work on the side and it's great having a reseller package to play around with

    Anyway, to the point...

I've recently installed DotNetNuke and found it to be an excellent bit of kit. I have however been really dissapointed with the loading times of the website.

I've ran my site ( www.cbhost.co.uk ) through http://www.websiteoptimization.com/s...nalyze/wso.php and found it to be quite large in size. Confirmed this by reading the odd post on the DNN forums.

I'm still slightly concerned (perhaps very wrongly) that there may be some delay connecting to the SQL server (HYDROGEN) in this case.

Can i have feedback from anyone else who's installed DNN, and there opinion on the software in general.

    Thanks in advance,

    Lordie

    Welcome Lord1e
Tanzy is your guy for DNN and I'm sure he'll respond to your query when he's next around. In the meantime I have DNN running on one site and although it's quite slow on initial load (something to do with creating sessions or summat!!), it runs fine when browsing around the site.
You may want to do a forum search for 'DNN' or read this thread.

The first load of any ASP.NET application requires compiling and therefore it will be slow, I should also mention that the ASP.NET lifetime will expire if your site is not visited regularly, thus causing a recompile requirement on a future page load.

Once compiled, the page load time should be quick.

Warren is correct in this. It is the case with all ASP.Net applications. Also if you have a complex skin then this can increase load times I believe. I have a complex one at www.lonerangersuk.co.uk and at times this can take time to load. However, once loaded it does not take long on future page loading. As I say this has a complex skin (I did not make the skin by the way )

I aslo run a testing site that I use to test my DNN installations and modules before I place them onto a live site. This site just has the standard skin that comes with DNN and does not take as long to load. (dnn.leatesting.com). Over all I find DNN very easy to use and write modules for (when I get the time), at the moment I'm writing a Gaming Clan module that can display XBox Gamer Cards. My first stab at this is on the test site. Once you get your head around the DNN framework (which is what DNN is), it is not too hard to develop a module for DNN.
