    Default Blogger and RedFoxHosting

I just moved to RedFoxhositng and have one website that runs a blog administered through Blogger.com.

I set up an FTP account that seems to work fine with my own ftp clients, but the blogger ftp robot that puts the blog files on the site just get 'connection timed out' errors.

At first I assumed this was just a DNS propagation problem that would sort itself in time, but my site now seems to be visible to the whole world except blogger.com.

Are there any tips or tricks for getting Redfox ftp accounts to work with blogger?

I'm pretty sure I'm not making any dumb mistakes like getting the address, user name or password wrong.

    Hello There,
Is there some blogger documentation on this?

    Hello Warren.

Blogger's FTP documentation is at <http://help.blogger.com/bin/topic.py?topic=19>.

As you'll see, it's pretty basic. It does say that the blogger ftp robot will only perform passive FTP (or sFTP). Active FTP is not supported. I've not read enough RFCs to really know what that means, so I have no idea if it's likely to be a problem.

I have filed a note of this problem with blogger support. Hopefully they will be able to tell me whether the robot is failing to get through the login process or simply cannot see ftp.laputa2.com in the first place.

I'll let you know as I discover more.

    cheers,

    p

Passive FTP should work fine - we can run a test if you like, I could leave the FTP Admin console open and watch for Blogger to connect?

    Thanks.

I've tried with Blogger once since my last post here.

I'll try again now (16.04 23-Sep-05). Let me know if you need me to try within a specific time frame...

With Blogger? Not really. I finally got a human-written email that suggested the usual stuff about getting logins and passwords right etc. They also suggested that RFH might be blocking connection attempts from blogger.com, but I guess you'd know about that if it was the case.
As you know from our private correspondence, blogger did get successful connections to ftp.redfoxhosting.com. For some reason, it seems it just can't see the ftp.laputa2.com virtual host though everyone else does, apparently.
I've been too busy with other things to test it out again since last week, but I'll let you know of any interesting developments.

    Thanks.
