I set up phpBB a little while ago, just out of my own curiosity really. I hadn't noticed it then, but sure enough I look now and see that the signature text is not appearing on mine either.

PHP 5 is however the way forward, and the phpBB developers cannot hide from that. It's PHP6 that we should all be thinking of now!

If I get enough spare moments I might try and investigate the problem myself, I think I have encountered most of the php4/5 transition problems, so why not another hey!

I hadnt had any issues with mine for a few months until the other day. It might take a little while or it can be instant, as i said, one guy sait it can happen as the board progresses but he never said how much progression needs to take place :\.

Ahh so your having the same problem to? yeah if PHP6 isnt far away then thats an even bigger issue in my eyes because of those guys at phpbb havent made any plans, yeah plans not actual moves / steps forward, to support 5, how long until they do 6? .
... I'm not an expert however I really don't think it's supposed to do that ...

The only problem with phpBB is because its free, development speeds aren't as great as those such as paid boards like vBulletin and IPB. Could be a while waiting for a php5 fix. You get what you pay for of course. It's a great free board but aren't they also working on phpBB3?

update# looking at that phpBB thread, it seems like phpBB3 does support php5 however who knows when this will be released.

Yeah also from looking at the thread there is an update / patch however its not an offical one and its from a third party site so it wont be supported from phpbb themselves :\. Luckily i have a friend that said he would write his own patches to account for any issues i might run into so that im thankful for lol. I didnt really fancy paying for a forum to be honest :\. How much are licenses these days for vbulletin and IPB?

vBulletin ones are priced reasonably at £82 for an owned license, which I think is great value for money for a great, well supported and developed board. £43 for leased (yearly) licenses.

Invision on the other hand will set you back £105 for the perpetual (owned) license, and £40 for the yearly license.

And I'm not entirely sure if these boards are fully PHP5 compliant.

The patch you mentioned I did notice actually and will think about installing it should I encounter any problems with my phpBB.

Yeah indeed, unless my friend manages to code some good bug fixes himself for me for no charge then i might look at paying for vbulletin. As i must admit after using this board ( and another board i use that runs vbulletin ) i quite like it i must admit.
