    Default ASP.NET, CGI & Verotel

    Hi all,

I am currently looking for a dedicated server to host a content subscription site written in C# \ ASP.NET (1.1) utilising SQL Server Express 2005 and Community Server.

I have to admit that when I came across the RedFox site and offers, I was more than a little impressed, as they seemed to fit the bill ! The only (potential) stumbling block is my knowledge of using CGI and ASP.NET together.

I am planning on using Verotel TicketsClub to provide my payment processing. They state that they can control the access to my "secure" folder (containing all the good stuff - ie. member content) by installing a CGI script within the folder. My only question is: if the ASPX pages within the "secure" folder have this CGI script installed, should they still function correctly?

    Thanks in advance!
    Pete

Yeah they should. It depends on where in ISAPI the cgi scripts will execute and what their file extensions are.

Generally, ASP.Net is configured to intercept certain file extensions and ignore all the other ones, letting IIS work out what is responsible for executing them.

I will state that I'm not sure if RFH supports CGI - I'm sure someone else will answer that. What is the CGI language? (Perl I assume).

I'd test everything VERY thoroughly on your own box first.

I know next to nothing about ASP.Net but surely, if TheBadger is looking at a dedicated server, he can install Perl himself if necessary.

Thats right, the dedicated servers on our site are unmanaged, which means the customer is free to setup and configure the server however he likes.
