XMLsockets... server requirements...?!?!

I want/need/must to make a two player flash game... from different machines...

I've been introduced to the word 'XMLsockets'...

Can anyone tell me more... alot more... what do I need from a server... etc etc...

I think i can get away with it sending info like a chat system ie, one person can choose a move then the next (chess but with footballs)... doesn't need to be simultaneous.

Sounds like another obscure term for AJAX or farting XML between two bits of software.

Sounds proprietary.
