    Default MS Exchange

    Hi there

Is M$ Echange available for email accounts in the shared environment? Most of us here work well will pop3 but the boss could do with exchange.

If not does anyone know of any other hosts that offer one off accounts with Exchange.

    cheers

What does "the boss" expect a hosted MS Exchange service to provide?

A quick "google" will throw up several suppliers, with varying offerings..

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the reply.

Basically he works remotely most of the time. At the moment he carts a laptop around which is synced with his desktop when he's back in the office.

What we need is the web interface to outlook available via exchange so he can connect via internet cafes etc and find all his outlook folders, contacts etc where he expects them.

I'm looking at setting up some kind of VPN/extranet functionality etc to enable this - however there are only 2 of us here running 3 big sites so we have little time for setting this up. A 3rd party hosted version would be much more preferable.

I've looked at some of the offerings I found via google - however as this would need 99.9% uptime I was hoping for a referral from someone who has used a sevice such as this and has found a reliable company.

    cheers

You can do most of that with Hotmail, especially if you use the new outlook-like web interface as well and pay the extra for Outlook access.

If you NEED an exchange account - FastHosts do them with mobile and desktop sync - but it's bloody slow and unreliable, not to mention expensive.

You can also use Gmail with redfox, by forwarding all your mail to your gmail account and setting to reply-to: on gmail to your real address. Works a treat.

    Thanks for that,

Yeah we use Gmail as a backup for all mail now. I'm looking at using SugarCRM to handle all client contact and email etc now - exchange is too costly etc.

    cheers

SugarCRM is pretty hefty on server resources. You need a dedicated box to make it bearable for day to day use.

My advice would be to switch to using IMAP. RFH servers do support IMAP and this allows you to create folders etc.. The cool thing is the webmail interface will be able to read these same folders.

For contacts have a look at using Plaxo. I know this means using to different systems, but you can export from Plaxo / Outlook into CSV format and import that into RFH webmail.

Alternatively you could run your own Exchange server by getting yourself MS Small Business Server. This would provide your boss with even more roaming capabilities and is easy to setup / maintain.
