    Default Refreshing in flash

    Hi,

We have a customer who is developing a flash site and is having a few problems. Not knowing flash myself I thought I'd ask here.

As I understand it he has an index.html file which has an embedded swf file within it.

When he browses the web page, it works fine. However, if he updates the swf file and uploads it, the old flash file is still displayed when he browses to the site again.

This is not just happening on his machine, it's happening on all of his customers' machines as well. He's trying to blame the web server configuration but I'm thinking it's just an IE cache problem.

Anyone had this problem and found a way around it?

    Thanks,

    Tobie.

Access the flash file like this:

    Code:
    http://www.domain.com/flashfile.swf?blah=randomjunk245453
This will cause a redownload of the flash file to refresh the cache.

You should download the IE Developer Toolbar

This allows you to disable the cache amongst other things.

Or indeed the Firefox web developer toolbar - you'll find a clear cache option under 'miscellaneous'.

WOW - I have never seen that before!! I use HTTPWatch for diagnosing problems, but a MS tool is pretty cool

You're not wrong there, I don't know what I'd do without the developer toolbar.
View Render Source Chart is another nice FF extension I use quite a lot.

That looks usful too - especially for debugging other people's code!
