Default Windows server 2003 and cookies

    Hi all

Hope some1 can shed some light on this, as u see I am burning the midnight oil and still not fixed it,

Okay so here is the problem

I have installed Win Server 2003 on my shiny new used server and installed dhcp and dns and active directory, and set up my web sites (asp.net2), this is all on an local devlopement network, now when I use the server to view my web sites everything is fine, however when I try and view the web sites from any machine on my network there are no cookies.
So the sites do not work correctly as I need the authenication cookie from asp.net to make the sites work.

I reckon it's some sort of permisions thing but which one ?

Anybody any ideas what the problem may be

This reminds me of something I saw ages ago, so forgive me if I'm wrong. How do you navigate to the webserver? I bet it's using the machine name and you're using IE. Try using the IP address instead.

    Hi

No I do not do it that way, I have set up DNS and Acitive directory, I have a domain called mydomain (hows that for originality) and I have set up a web site in IIS called web2 and set the header of the web site to web2.mydomain put a A record in the Dns server mydomain and set the ip to the web site IP and then I navigate to the site using

    http://web2.mydomain

I can see all the web site but any part of it that needs cookies doe's not work including authentication, and when I check there are no cookies being written in the IE cookie folder on the client machine

I would add that the browser on the client machine works perfectly when using the internet, cookies and all.

Try adding the sites to the Trusted Sites list in Internet Explorer. It may be possible that IE has some restricted settings in the Intranet Zone, so you could look at that as well.

I ran into a similar problem in my old workplace where session cookies were failing turns out to be because the computer name had an illegal character in it, in this case it was an "_" worth checking.

No it's not the computer name only A to z characters in the names of all the Pc's on the network.
