Default Import / Export MS SQL Server Management Studio Express

i've taken alot from this forum, so i thought i post a little snip of something i found elsewhere!

i discovered importing and exporting from SQL Studio Express impossible, until i found this:-

    import/export sql: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Binn\DTSWizard.exe

you are able to import from a SQL db to an SQL db, from access, from a flat file (csv, txt)... and much more!... damn useful!!!

a lucky google search for import and exporting from SQL SMSE!

no one can explain why it's not available through the software tool bar...

Good find, it was one of the main gripes about the free version that there wasn't a way to import your data easily like in enterprise manager.

The command that is being executed is the data transformation service tool directly which was a feature in sql 2000. Can you not access the graphical wizard in 2005?

i noticed the same with my work machine, where i only have SQL SMSE installed. on my home machine i have SQL SMSE and Visual Studio 2005 AND SQL server 2005 installed... so i'm assuming one of those last two come with it attached...?!?

I think you'll find this is part of SQL 2005 and not the Management Studio.

I think Microsoft dropped the ball on this as I believe they should have included a streamlined DTSWizard which would only allow Import/Export from one MS SQL db to another (basically removing import/export from other sources).
