    Default PayPal Website Payments Pro

    Hi all,

I've noticed that PayPal finally have their fully fledged merchant service. Foolishly I mentioned it to a friend and now he wants to replace his HSBC service with it.

Has anyone had experience with this yet? I've only skimmed the manual but it looks like it uses an app that you access via an API on your server to authorise the card behind the scenes so the client never leaves your site.

What is the deal with getting exe's or dll's installed on the servers? Is this something that Red Fox will do, or at least do for a fee? I wouldn't want him to sign up then find I cant run the software

I know the normal PayPal stuff is, but the new docs talk about an app and an API that you select depending on your server OS.
I think i'll get him to sign up so I can download the software. There's no cancellation fee and you get the first months free so he shouldn't go out of pocket.

Can't you test it in the Sandbox?

I think this is done with asp.net and yes it can be tested in sandbox mode. I'll see if I can find some more information tomorrow (today)

Hey thanks, I couldn't find the download on the UK pages. I've had a look at the php modules and it looks like it should work straight off. It uses SOAP, not sure if PHP needs to have that addition turned on? I'm relatively new to PHP and have never used any of the protocol stuff before.

I'll get the account signed up and see where it leads.

Thanks again, although I'm going to be up all night now looking through the sdk

    Hi Stuart,

I see I've been beaten to it on the integration page though I have found the same on the paypal.co.uk site.

Here's what I've found so far:
PayPal Pro Payments uses the PayPal web services API to do Express Pay or Direct Payment processing. You must sign up for a PayPal merchant account and create either a three token signature or a PayPal API certificate. The PayPal API certificate requires that it be installed on the web server. If you can't get it installed, you must use the three token signature. See Step 2 on this link PayPal Integration Center Website Payments Pro

Now there may be some differences in the UK/US confiuration of this though this may be complete rubbish and just down to the way PayPal Pro has been integrated into the CandyPress shopping cart as it doesn't work for UK paypal accounts. I'm following this on the CP forum and will update if it's relevent.

Note the note on this link Website Payments Pro: Resources
If you don't have a shopping cart that has integrated Website Payments Pro, and want to do your own integration, you'll need programming support. To speak with a sales representative, call 0800 358 7929
    Hope that helps
    Regards
    Keith.

Thanks for the info. I've delved deeper into the links you posted and downloaded the SDK and user manuals for PHP. After reading the documents things become clearer.

The system communicates with PayPal via SOAP over HTTPS. I'm using PHP and therefore need PHP PEAR installed (I think) to use the SOAP layer. I don't think RedFox support this do they?
I could use .NET instead but I guess this would require the relevant .NET module installing on the server, something else that could be a problem.

Does anyone know what is available via the servers as regards SOAP?

I've had little to no experience with this sort of thing. I'm a games programmer by trade and we don't tend to need secure transactions while playing online
