    Default Email Forwarding

ok... i buy my domains from 123reg... i host the domain with them, and forward the www MX records to point to redfoxhosting (hey, it works!). and leave the email with them, and forward ALL email to a hotmail account.

well, they have now implemented serious email filters, and nothing really comes through... i liked catch-all email forwarding because when i subscribed to a new site i could put the site name at my domain (ie redfoxhosting@mydomain.co.uk) just meant i could manage where emails were coming from...

if i were to completely move my domains to redfoxhosting, would i have to setup all the email addresses as their own pop boxes? as i understand RFH don't do catch all??

    or is there another solution?

Redfox don't as a rule provide catch all anymore, but will make exceptions if your reasons are good enough. I'm not sure this reason is however.

Indeed, we wont be able to provide a catch all for this reason - we only provide them for technical reasons, not for vanity reasons.

    meow.

the reason behind giving each subscription their own address at my domain (ie amazon@mydomain.co.uk) was to see where emails where coming from, and if they were coming form the right people - ie farmed or sold email address.

    worked a treat.

    oh well.

I understand, a few people do this; the only solution is to setup individual forwarders (go through your inbox to find all the email addresses ever used).

I used to configure my mail to work as described which was great as I could soon establish who was spaming me and block a particular address. When I started using redfox it was allowed and then it was removed which was a real shame.

I once set up a sony@ address and recieved some spam to this address and sony denied ever passing this address to someone else which was very perculier why someone would have guessed to use such address.

Setting up individual forwarders is a real pain.

it's knowing where emails are coming from, and who you gave that email address to - and perhaps being able to alert companies...

i received phishing emails from an e-commerce site, if they had their customers email addresses farmed - i'd hate to think what other personally details may have been compromised...

You can't do this with the red fox setup, but using some other email services, like googlemail, you can.

Give companies your email address in this form:
    myemailaddress+thecompany@gmail.com
the email will be delivered to myemailaddress@gmail.com.

It's a very useful trick for many things, as you can set up filters based on these sort of addresses.
