    Default Dnn 4.5

I'm sure that you will all be pleased to hear that I have just taken a look at the newly released DNN 4.5

I have installed the default install, as downloaded from the DNN website onto the RFH servers. Everything installed without any problems.

At a first look it is very nice and has the slick feeling. It also has a nice web based installer.

My test site is at dnn.leatesting.com

    Hi Tanzy,

Just to make sure. Does this mean that DNN 4.5 is fully compatible with RFH (without any modifications)? That would be great news!

    Thanks!

I have installed it without any modifications. Still playing around with it but the base certainly seems fine.

    Hi

I have downloaded and installed 4.5 on my own development server to have a play around with, and I thought that the install wizard was much more freindly.

As I am not a DNN guru doe's anyone know how I can make an image pop link up without having to build a module or use a 3rd party one, is it possible to put a bit of javascript in a Text/Html module content?.

I was googling the other day but found nothing that would do it, but I did come across a little snippet regarding performance of DNN, it would appear that the database install sets Backup Logs to Full, and if you change it to Simple there is a decent performance gain, I tried it on my local install and it would appear to work

Is it easy to upgrade to DNN 4.5? (Is it even possible?)

I don't believe that you can put javascript into Text/HTML module content, as the textbox is very oftern used for forums etc so that would open up a security hole.

I have not tried doing an upgrade. However, it should work fine depending on what you are upgrading from. Just remember to make a backup of your webl.config file as you will need to get the machinekey etc out of it for the new version of the web.config file. Also make sure you do a test upgrade first or have a backup of your website.

A thought occurred to me last night, not tried it though. If memory serves me when you create a Text/HTML module, you can select an option of RAW. I believe that this enables you to enter RAW data, rather than using the WYSIWYG entry. This may enable you to enter javascript.

Actually... the Text/HTML module can be used fine for javascript - it works well - I've use it for inserting GoogleAds, Google Analytics and our own custom javascript code onto pages.

It seems to be up to the module (not the editor) when content is banned - e.g. the repository module strips out flash, javascript and other "dangerous" items from any content you insert into the editor.

And just as I was about to upgrade to 4.5.0, along comes 4.5.1... will make a decision soon...
