    Default Web Forwarding URL

    Hi,

When I use the 'Web Forwarding URL' functionality in Helm, what type of redirect will be done and is this 'search engine' friendly?
    (i.e. a Permanently Moved 301?)

I suppose the same redirect will be used for all the domain aliases of this domain?

    Thanks,
    Jaro

I don't know the answer to this, however, it should be easy to find out using a tool like Fiddler.

Fiddler will let you inspect the HTTP protocol commands sent from client to server and vice a versa, it also lets you manipulate these.

I was actually curious about this too. So I've just give it a test.

Forwaring trough HELM is gives a 302 response code. (HTTP Status Code: HTTP/1.1 302 Redirect) Not really search engine friendly I believe

But it does include domain aliases.

What about when you enter this as the web forwarding URL, I believe this will give a 301 redirect:

    Code:
    http://www.domain.com,PERMANENT

Nice one Warren. That does the trick

Do you think there is any chance WHA will make this option in to a checkbox?

I doubt it, but there a there are a number of things you can "inject" into the web forwarding URL which will translate into IIS settings:

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro....mspx?mfr=true

    ...its actually very powerful.

I tried this but did´nt work. when I tried http://mydomain.org hoping it would be redirected to http://www.mydomain.org I got an error saying that the server is not redirecting and that it may be a cookie problem..¿?

That would cause an infinite loop - you will need to use URL Rewriting to do the redirect instead so that it can check whether it needs to do the www redirect.

can something similar be done for a subdomain?
example having sub.mydomain.co.uk to forward to sub.mydomain.com?

Thanks in advance for your reply

You can do this quite easly using URL Rewriting.
