    Default Domain Forwarding...

What are the theories on domain forwarding?

I have a website that sells a handful of products. The website domain is not descriptive of the products (the company name), does really well in organic listings (top 3 for many many different phrases for the two products).

I recently bought two domains which are basically the product names - is there any benefit in forwarding these domains to the main website? Or will this do more harm than good?

Google does not like the same content being reused under other domains although I have not had a customer penalised thus far. i would personally use the domains to create micro sites which provide detailed information about the products which then funnel them into the main site of which this process is made clear.

Making mirco sites is a great idea. You could also forward those other two domains to your main domain using a 301-forward. But this means their (most likely) not going to be listed in the organic results. So makeing mirco sites is much more usefull.

Also (and you've might done this already) 301-forward your http://domain-name.com to your http://www.domain-name.com. (or the other way around.) Google see's this as two different sites.

In addition to this, you can set a preferred domain in Google Webmaster Tools.
