Default RFH exchange server sbs2k3 smtp connector problem

Hi, im trying to configure exchange server to send internet mail through RF smtp server.
I tried to create a new smtp connector which routes all mail to the mail.domain.com (domain=our domain), with basic authentication on the Advanced tab but it doesnt work...

The exact error i get on the mails i try to send is
"This system is not configured to relay mail - if you are the owner of a mailbox at this server please ensure your mail client is configured for outgoing authentication in your account settings."

    Can anyone help me?

If you are getting that relay error - your Exchange server is definitely not authenticating with the set credentials.

You will need to investigate your end; see if there any SMTP transaction logs for the connections from your Exchange server to our SMTP server.

I have the same problem and the Warren Ashcroft answers don't solve the problem. The relay in smtp server works?

What are you logs showing, can you get a connection transcript?

Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason you are trying to send all your mail through RFH servers?

Personally I would set things up so that all mail is routed to the upstream, that is the mail server of the company providing the Internet Connection to the Exchange Server. This should theoretically be quicker.

I don't understand why this would affect how you configure Exchange Servers SMTP connector? You should still be setting the SMTP connector to route mail directly to your upstream as this would be the quickest and most bandwidth efficient way. The only time you would need to change this is if you feel your upstreams mail service is not off a standard it should be, however, in this case I would question the quality off the bandwidth they also provide.
