    Default Simple statistics app

    Hi,

I would like to request a simpler statistics program as an addition to SmarterStats. I am getting some requests from my customers for just a plain simple statistics program. SmarterStats is really great. But also somewhat complicated and a bit too much if you just want to know how many people visited your website.

I know AwStats is abandoned for good reasons and its not likely to get installed again. But perhaps there are other apps that could be considered. I have done some searching and this is what I’ve come up with:

    Webalizer
    Analog
    AwFull
    123loganalyzer (not free though)

Anyone else recognize the need for a simpler statistics app?

Personally I don't have a problem with the current set-up, besides the often painfully slow responsiveness of SmarterStats.
I tend to set up SmarterStats to email reports to users who don't want the fuss of drilling through the stats themselves. As the reports can be fairly well customised I can remove most extraneous information from them, keeping it fairly consumable.
I do sometimes use Google's Analytics for clients, as I like the interface and find most people can understand it quickly enough—that obviously requires tacking a bit of JS to the pages though.

    ......
I definitely want SmarterStats to be available for customers that want to use it. A fair deal of my customers are just consumers or small business without a large or sales driven website. For them there is little need for a such extended statistics. However I find they are always interested in how many people visited their website. Hence my request for a simpler statistics like AwSats.

I really don’t feel like setting up email reports for all of those users though.

Google Analytics is great, and like Nick I like the interface. But it doesn’t answer to my request as the GA js code needs to be added to the website. This needs to be done by the customers/user its self.

I can understand how that might become very tedious if you have many users to do all at once…

    Warren,

Is there any possibility that one of those app's might get istalled in the (very) near future?

Is there a possibility that something could be added?

Currently the ONLY way to get any sort of stats is to install smarterstats onto the domain.
We currently have a dedicated server, but are limited to how many smarterstats instalations we have (as these dont run off our server). Therfor we only install smarterstats if a client specifically asks for stats.

The problem is though that smarterstats only start from the day you install them.
Daft thing is that sometimes all we/the client need is a rough idea of how many hits they have had in any given month (dont actually need or want 95% of what smarterstats offer).

Couldnt there be something implemented that as standard takes some sort of count of hits? This is the one thing that HELM lacks. Most control panels keep bandwith counts as well as basic stats.

Smarterstats are a brilliant stats package to be able to give to clients.... but I do think we could/should look at something that comes as part of HELM, or standard (ie very basic stats).

If you have a dedicated server then I presume you can log onto the server. If so then you can install the software or pay someone for the time to install and configure smarterstats or less Warren is willing to do it for free.
