Default Using RF Email with iPhone

Hi there. Has anyone been able to get RedFox hosted IMAP email to work on the iPhone. Using identical settings to the ones I use on my laptop, I am getting a message "connection to the server 'mail.mydomain.com' failed." when attempting to fetch mail… Other email accounts of mine hosted elsewhere are working fine.

You may need to disable encryption because I don't think the iPhone likes the certificate name mismatch (unless you set the mail server to mail.SERVER.lon.periodicnetwork.com) so that you connect to your domains mail server and the certificate name matches.

...I have had it working on my iPhone but don't use the mail function so removed it.

It will give an alert message about the certificate (as Mail.app now does in Leopard too), but one is free to allow it to continue regardless.
I've just tried using the domain as it is on the certificate, but it doesn't fix the "connection to the server" problem, so it seems something other than that.
Might hack into it and find some log files, they may shed some light. If I can be bothered, I'll let you know.

Are you using it on the official O2 contract? Can you connect to other servers?

Sort of… I am using it on an 02 contract, the phone has not been unlocked to allow unauthorised sims though I do have ssh opened up. I am able to connect to other personal email servers that I use.

Nick is your mail server Silicon by any chance?

Just that I use my PDA to get mail now and again and have no problems with my mail on Argon. However, I can never get mail from Silicon. Both accounts on my PDA use POP3, Argon get mail without any issue, Silicon alot of the time my PDA will just not connect. Or when it does, and I open the mail there is no content. It just seems to download the subject line. Both accounts work fine with POP3 from Outlook. Never have figured why it does not work on my PDA for the mail on Silicon.

For your info Warren, I don't believe that it was the mail account. As I even deleted the account and recreated it, and it still had the same issue.

The two mail servers I've been trying are Titanium and Silicon.

Side note: I've had people on Silicon with messages that don't fully download, quite a few times; it can be a bit frustrating as many mail clients don't offer a 'try again' option—I always have to direct them to their webmail.

It seems that the iPhone and ModusMail do not like each other.

I have sent an email to Vircom to find out the status of this issue.
