Default To many webspace being used by log files

I actually only recently discovered that the logs files can really add to your webspace. I mean really tremendously add up to your webspace. For example the webspace usage from one of my customers is 258 MB. The files in de wwwroot folder are only using 18 MB, so that means that 240 MB! are being used for just the log files. That’s 93% of the webspace being … well kind of useless actually.

Did recently anything change concerning the log file, or has it always been like this?

The log files are compressed daily, and only kept for 30 days - if you open a ticket we can investigate.

Just deleted most of the log files for the given domain above. I am kind of having the idea that this a problem concerning all domains? As soon as your website is getting some reasonably amount of traffic the log files are really taking up webspace.

I don't see log files being compressed daily though, only after 15 days the log files are listed as compressed .cab files and reasonably reduced in size.

As I said, open a ticket so that we can investigate - log files are usually compressed daily.

No, they are/should be compressed daily - once they are older than one day.

log files can quickly grow - we have customers at work who logs grow each day by 800mb. - they also compress very well.

I found approx 1/3 of my disk capacity was being used by log files a few days ago and deleted them. The main problem was 2 or 3 log files which had not been compressed to cabs.

Looking at my log folder now shows the latest cab file generated at 1am today which compressed the log files from 3 days ago? The log file from 03 Jan has not been compressed to cab. Yesterdays log hasnt been compressed to cab either.

I did log a call for this very issue yesterday but have had no response yet.

This is standard behaviour - the log files aren't compressed the same day, they will only get compressed once 2-3 days old. This is so that any statistical analysis software customers use (such as SmarterStats we provide) has time to read the files and gather the data.

    Cheers Warren.

Could this be modified to compress sooner and keep less copies? I rarely use the Stats but over 1/3 of my diskspace is being used for logs!

Could the space used for logs be excluded from your diskspace usage calculations?
