    Default Unexpected redirect to searchportal.information.com?

One of my customers is redirected to "searchportal.information.com" when he enters the URL of his domain (which is hosted at RFH). This happens on all systems in his LAN.

I'm unable to reproduce this, the website shows up fine on my systems. I also can't find any abnormalities in the DNS settings of the domain.

I suspect it to be a local problem in the network of this customer or of his ISP. As he's running on Mac, I wouldn't expect it to be a virus or spyware.

    I'm puzzled. Any ideas?

    Some things to check -

    Incorrect lan DNS settings
    - Don't know much about Mac's but you could try checking the IP resolves correctly on his lan - using something like
    nslookup domain.com
This should resolve to the redfox server.

    - check another redfox site from the lan.

    - check browser addons - disable anything you do not recognise.

I would rather suspect that the browser has been infected. Mac's quite often have multiple browsers installed as Safari is not that complient - if so try another browser.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, their internal network is managed by some other company. I will see that they'll check the things you mentioned.

A quick google on searchportal.information.com makes it sounds suspiciously like the dns servers they use have been poisoned. You could have them try using opendns, and if that works it definitely points the finger at their dns servers and rules out any dns issue on the computer(s) itself.

Thanks. I'm checking with them if the problem was solved.

I saw this recently when I was re-pointing DNS away from RFH to Servage (I needed Linux hosting for a domain).

The DNS servers I was using at the time were via Be Broadband ... the re-routing only happened when I entered a registered domain that hadn't propagated.

In my case it turned out to be a configuration issue in the local network of the customer.
