    Default Load Balanced ADSL

    Hi Guys,

I haven't done this for a while, so am just wondering if anyone here has advice / recommendations. Basically looking to load-share two ADSL lines to ensure no single point of failure.

At present there is a single ADSL line going through a ADSL Modem to a Windows Small Business Server. The modem has a statically assigned IP Address with the SBS Server's external IP set-up as a DMZ Host (the modem is doing NAT between the SBS server and itself). The SBS server then also uses NAT to route to each individual workstation.

What I', looking to do is add another ADSL from a different provider, this way should one provider be having issues all traffic will route over the other one.

If anyone knows of a solution that would bond lines from 2 different ISP's then I'd like to know about it (I have done MLPPP set-ups before, but these require you to be with the same ISP for all connections - ie. great for speed increase but not good for redundnacy).

Someone has already mentioned FireBrick to me, which looks promising and it would be great to hear from anyone with experience.

I use something called fatpipe, this maybe a little over the top for you buy it does exactly that including the ability to have a third connection for a 3g datacard.

I have a draytek vigor2820vn ADSL router (http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor2820.html) it has an additional WAN port that can be used for load balancing and backup, not that I've tried it. You'd still need a separate ADSL modem. They are nice routers though, imo.

I'm looking to buy one of these to replace my tired Speedtouch 780WL. The included functionality is amazing.

@ around £180 it's not cheap but if it performs as well as the Vigor 2600G I used to have, it'll be well worth it.

This seems like it would be a good alternative to the FireBrick and it is almost half the price (the FireBrick is about £300 and doesn't have built in modems so you need to addd them).
