RFH: New Email Infrastructure Deployment (31st January 03:00am)

As mentioned above, should any customer wish to have a domain migrated prior to this date please contact us via support ticket.
Thanks, I'm looking forward to this.

One question that may be of general concern. Some of my domains have configured custom MX records in HELM that currently point to external mail servers. Will these records be affected? I.e. will your migration script overwrite these records with the new RFH mail server IPs? (it will be a pain to restore these records afterwards, and if so, I'd like to know upfront so I can save them).

    Thanks,
    Jaro

BTW. Sorry to see our Karma (Thanks: ...) has been reset to 0 with this new version of vBulletin...

No, DNS records which have been manually altered will not be reverted/overwritten.

    I know, sorry about that!

Aaargh!! That will be a MAJOR problem for me as I have several client domains where custom MX records have been configured to route their mail via external spam filtering service and/or mail is forwarded directly to IP address of their own internal mail server. If this is reset to default DNS zone records they will either lose mail completely or suddenly see a huge increase in spam!

Warren how can this issue be resolved, or failing that at least co-ordinated so I will know PRECISELY when you are changing over the domains affected and ensure the DNS zone records are can therefore correct the zone records right away. THIS IS A CRUCIAL ISSUE AND, AS OTHER CLIENTS MAY BE AFFECTED BY THIS - WHICH COULD HAVE MAJOR REPERCUSSIONS FOR THEM TO, I REALLY FEEL YOU NEED TO SEND OUT AN UPDATE MAILING TO ALERT YOUR CUSTOMERS TO THIS ISSUE!

Aah, what a relief! I see that now, but it was the additional "I know, sorry about that!" comment you added which confused me. Why apologise if you will not be changing the DNS records?!

Ah, that was in response to other part of Jaro's post:

Just want to clarify another thing relating to the forthcoming mail migration. For customers using POP mail who have their mail client set to store copies of messages on your servers, when you migrate their mail will their mail client (or phone) recognise messages that have been previously downloaded and leave them there, or will it just download ALL stored messages again? I ask cos I've seen problems with this issue before where messages were moved from one server to another but the users suddenly found 100's (or more!!) previously downloaded messages started downloading into the inbox in their mail client (or mobile phone) again following the server move, causing them much consternation! I assume this is to do with some kind of "message downloaded" flag being set or reset but not sure exactly where/what controls it. Do you know if this might be an issue, and if so is there any way it can be prevented?
