I ask cos I've seen problems with this issue before where messages were moved from one server to another but the users suddenly found 100's (or more!!) previously downloaded messages started downloading into the inbox in their mail client (or mobile phone) again following the server move, causing them much consternation! I assume this is to do with some kind of "message downloaded" flag being set or reset but not sure exactly where/what controls it. Do you know if this might be an issue, and if so is there any way it can be prevented?
I'll have to check this out for you to see if we can include it in the migration script - it depends on wheter the current system (ModusMail) stores that "read" flag in a format we can read back out; otherwise unless the mail client does a compare on message IDs it is likely to redownload already downloaded mail.

I've seen this a few times and I am really hoping you can migrate those read flags…

So far it hasn't been possible to read these flags however all the transferred messages can be set as "read", that way they don't download again - the only downside being any recent messages which haven't been read will appear so.

Hmmm, not ideal but I think that's still probably better than clients getting possibly hundreds of old messages appearing in their mail client again. Assuming the migrations are done early hours on Sundays as per the planned Argon one, and completed as quickly as possible, then hopefully there'd be minimal risk or any/many recent messages being missed.

    Warren,

Any updates on the migration? Have all messages been successfully transferred to the new location?

    Thanks.

Not yet, I think - at least in my case. The accounts I checked only have mail from ~10am yesterday.

I believe that all my migrations still need to happen as well as delivery of new email that came in whilst the front end server changes were underway.

The messages in some of my mailboxes have been migrated, but I also received a question (last night, 10pm) from a customer who couldn't find his old messages (yet).

Default Unable to send mail using alternative SMTP Ports on new mail system

    Hi,

I have noticed that following the upgrade to the new mail system on Argon that the alternative SMTP ports are not working (in the past I have used 366 and 586). Luckily my users on Argon that once needed to use alternate SMTP ports (ISP blocked port 25) no longer have an issue, but when the other servers migrate I will have some issues.

Does anyone know if this is an intentional omittance or can it be re-implemented?

Hmm ... I am seeing the migration now. Unfortunately it is resulting in duplicate delivery to my email client. Better that than missing any though, I suppose.
