    Default .ie Domain

I need to register an Irish domain (.ie) and have it hosted on my RedFox reseller account.

What do I need to do so that all traffic comes to my RedFox account?

    I guess:
    1. Register the domain through an Irish company.
    2. Change the Nameservers to point to my RedFox nameservers.
    3. Set up a 'fake' domain with the same name through Helm.

Anything else? Am I completely wrong? Stupid?

Will that make ALL traffic come to my 'Fake' domain, i.e. all email accounts and sub-domains that I set up within the fake domain?

    Cheers

I have a .eu domain that I set up ages ago bought via an Irish registrar, it was dead easy and presumably very similar.
Can't recall exactly what I did but I think it was roughly as above:
    1. Buy domain via Irish registrar
    2. Change it to RFH DNS servers (via the Irish companies admin tools)
    3. Set up in HELM as normal

Haven't looked at it since, it works. Though I do have to renew the registration soon.

    In addition....

I have just heard back from one of the Irish domain registration companies that the IEDR require that .ie domains have at least 2 Authoritative name servers.

I am sadly ignorant on this. What is an Authoritative name server as oppose to a non-Authoritative name server? would the name servers that I have set up (ns1.jch-solutions.net, etc...) be Authoritative or Non-Authoritative name servers?

    Cheers

    Hello Jez,
Those three steps are spot on, however I'm not sure why you refer to it as a "fake" domain?

I've probably called it a fake domain because even though it has the correct domain name, no traffic would get there until the nameservers were changed.

In helm I have created a new user, I have assigned a package to that user, and then assigned a domain with a name that would match the domain name that will be registered in Ireland and selected the 'No registration or transfer required'.

So now, I just need to register the domain in Ireland (which I can't do until my Business Name is registered) and change the name servers to Authoritative name servers on rfh.

    Are my ns1.jch-solutions.net nameservers Authoritative?

    Cheers

I see - Helm isn't concerned if the domain is actually using the nameservers it controls or not. You can even add domains which will never exist...

Yes - an authoritative nameserver is one which hosts the DNS zone (all the DNS records) for the domain in question (which your nameservers will do - those point at DNS servers we operate for all domains hosted in our network). A non-authoritative nameserver is one which does not host the DNS zone for the domain in question (such as your ISPs DNS servers) and therefore must resolve the DNS query through the chain until it reached the authoritative nameserver in order to obtain the requested data.

OK, I have registered the domain name (tusnuadesigns.ie) and set the nameserververs to my nameservers (ns1.jch-solutions.net, ns2... ns3... ns4...), and I've created the domain (tusnuadesign.ie) as a hosted domain in helm.

I have set up an email and it seems to work ok sending and receiving with another email account hosted on RFH, and with external mail accounts.

Also, the website (http://www.tusnuadesigns.ie) isn't accessible.

Have I forgotten to do something, or have I done something wrong?

    Cheers

    Hello Jez,
It seems some DNS records weren't properly setup when the domain was added to the control panel, I have now fixed these for you and within a couple of hours it will fix the website problem.

    Thank you Warren.

Was it caused by something I did? I will be following the same process for a number of clients here in Ireland (registering the domain over here but hosting on RFH) so I need to make sure I am doing the right thing.

    Cheers

    Hello Jez,
No I don't think so, Helm sometimes doesn't setup the DNS records needed for the WWW service - let us know if it happens again on your next domain.
