Default Setting E-mail account passwords outside of helm?

Just a quick questions, I think I might be missing something that is obvious here but I can't seem to find a way for my clients to easily update their passwords (apart from helm). I would have hoped that they could do this within webmail. As far as I can remember we could do this before the move to Smarter Mail.

Has this feature been disabled, if so can it be re-enabled or is it clamped down for security reasons?

    Many Thanks

    Tim

It looks like it's been disabled as the option is there on all of my non-RF hosted SmarterMail accounts.

    Maybe there's a Helm/SmarterMail compatibility issue?

Well that just makes me sad, a bit like this guy ->

Warren, any chance of enabling this feature for a picture of a sad Darth Vader?

Unlikely as the password change option is certainly available in Smartermail v7 on my own non-RF hosted SmarterMail accounts which are also associated with HELM.

Warren, can you please re-enable the password change option in Smartermail? It seems only right that clients should be able to change their own mail passwords easily, ....plus my standard blurb to clients states this is a feature available to them via Smartermail!

Yeah, but that's a very old thread, plus it's pre Red Fox using Smartermail as the webmail client - so even if that method does still work (haven't tried it myself) I don't think it's nearly as user-friendly or obvious as allowing users to change their passwords via the Smartermail settings options. It's also just another URL they have to remember (or be advised of), so including it within Smartermail's settings (as it apparently is by default) seems a much better method methinks

    It does ;-)

Maybe Warren's reason (All passwords must be changed in the Helm Control Panel for data syncronisation purposes) is still the case.

Maybe there's cases where Helm could overwrite a new password set via SmarterMail with the original one from the Helm database?

[Edit: I've just tested this on another host and, if you change a mailbox password in SmarterMail and then do anything to the mailbox in Helm which involves saving, the password is indeed re-set to the original one from Helm.]

This is exactly the reason why we don't allow password changes in SmarterMail itself - they must be done through the control panel, this is why we provide the "Mini Helm Mailbox Control Panel" at mailAdmin.asp since not all mailbox owners have Helm logins.
