Default can`t send mail with windows live mail

I am trying to set up mail on Windows 7 Windows Live Mail client.

Emails come through fine but I can`t send, I have tried all sorts of setup configs such as ssl, no ssl, authentication methods etc.

I am trying to set up IMAP mail, the message I get is

A TCP/IP error occured while trying to connect to the server

Is there anything specifically I need to do to get emails to send using live mail?

    Thanks

ISP's frequently block outbound connections to smtp severs other than their own - try changing the port to 587,
Youi will need to authenticate but you do not need a secure connection.

Thanks for the suggestions, flippin thing still won`t go. To get the emails out I sent to drafts then sent from my iphone.

Something somewhere is stopping it, might use a different mail client

I use windows live mail as well - with the settings above.
Suggest you try msdn.microsoft.com - I seem to remember that you can use telnet to talk to a smtp server somehow - I remember doing this years ago. May provide a clue.
I think it may be your iSP - Have you tried it from another source (work?)

Yeah I tried at work and at home and also tethered to my phone over 3G, same problem each time.

It is a work laptop and we aren't supposed to install software hence wwanting to use what is installed. Can get around work restrictions though and install via code hehe if I can't get live mail to work
